FEMALES DESERVE EQUAL OPPORTUNITY AS THEIR MALE COUNTERPARTS- SALAWU

The NYSC Osun State Gender Desk Officer, Alhaja Kehinde Salawu has informed the 202l Batch B stream 2 corps members that women deserve to be given equal opportunity to occupy leadership positions just like their male counterparts.
She made the disclosure at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp Ede on Friday while delivering a lecture on Gender Equality and Equity.

Salawu, noted that the lecture was introduced to enlighten corps members and to make them aware of issues such as sexual abuse, child labour, roles, rights and responsibilities of each gender.

While speaking, she stated that gender equality is not meant to be a competition with men but rather an advocation for equal opportunity for both gender.

" ln the political space, females should be encouraged to participate. Both male and female should be sent to school and be educated, instead of the females going to farm to work" she added.

Corps members were encouraged to help campaign against sexual inequality and that they can be part of the Gender Community Development Service Group.

" Empowering women contributes to socio-economic growth. Campaign should also be done against female genital mutilation".

In conclusion, Alhaja Salawu encouraged Corps members to dress modestly at all times and be good examples to their students in their places of primary assignments.
