Omotayo Admonishes Corps Members to Give Their Best To Their Nation
The Deputy Director Community Development Service (CDS) Department, Mr. Omotayo D. Adewoye (Rtd), has admonished the 202l Batch B stream 2 corps members to give their best to the service of their nation.
He made this known during the motivational lecture at the multipurpose hall of the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp Ede, on Tuesday.
In his address, Mr. Adewoye spoke briefly about the history of the NYSC, which was established in the wake of the Nigerian Civil War, by then Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, as part of his plan to rebuild the nation. The rebuilding of the nation took three forms, which were: reconciliation, reconstruction, and rehabilitation, for which the Nigerian youths between the ages of 21 to 30, were mobilized to serve their country for a year.
The vision of the NYSC is to develop skills in Nigerian youths, with the aim of empowering them through platforms such as SAED, which was initiated in 2012 as a means to teach Corps Members self-development and self-reliance.
Mr. Adewoye enumerated the five core values of the NYSC, which are: patriotism, integrity, efficiency, commitment, and teamwork.
Furthermore, he educated Corps Members on guidelines for a successful service year by informing them about the four cardinal programs of the NYSC, which are: the Orientation Course, Primary Assignment, Community Development Service, and Winding Up and Passing Out.
Speaking on preparations for post service year, Mr. Adewoye encouraged Corps Members to take advantage of various platforms made available to them during their service year, such as SAED, and funding options, professional certifications, community development service, among others. He also urged them to build upon what they learn during their service year, as a means for them to be fully prepared for life beyond it.
To wrap up his lecture, Mr. Adewoye encouraged Corps Members to have a vision, cultivate self-control, determination, dedication, be loyal to their employer at their PPA, and ultimately, to fear God.
