*Olawale Sensitises Corps Members on Breast and Cervical Cancer*

The Head of Socials, Mrs Veronica Olawale, has Sensitized the 2021 Batch C Stream 1 Corps Members on Breast and Cervical Cancer.

Speaking on the topic, was Doctor Olagunju, a Medical doctor from Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, who Educated the Corps Members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede on Wednesday. 

"Cervical Cancer is the second most common cancer in the developed countries and it is sexually transmitted by a virus, Human Papillon Virus. It is also the abnormal growth of tumor on the cervic - a structure in a woman’s reproductive system at the mouth of the womb". - he said. 

He outlined symptoms associated to this cancer which includes a foul smelling discharge, bleeding after sex, frequent pains In the abdomen.

He also mentioned that the risk factors such as having multiple sexual partners, Early exposure to sexual activity, unprotected sex, can be curbed by getting vaccinated against Cervical Cancer between the ages of 9-26.

“Although Women are more prone to breast cancer but Men are beginning to get subjected to it as well. Early detection by self examination can help detect breast cancer afterwards, a clinical breast examination is advised" - he added.

He advised Corps Members to look out for the following Breast Cancer Symptoms- Hard lumps in the breast, skin change, funny discharges and weight loss as well.
