STATE COORDINATOR IMPLORES PCMS TO USE THE SOCIAL MEDIA SPACE WISELY
The NYSC Osun State Coordinator, Mrs. Olayinka Abdulwahab has implored the 2022 Batch C Stream II Prospective Corps Members to use the social media to add value to themselves and others, not using it to peddle false information, hatespeech and divisiveness.
According to her, the Internet has made it possible to learn and acquire more knowledge on anything and therefore called on them to harness the golden opportunity on their smartphones to acquire skills and knowledge that will enhance their employability and make them more relevant and impactful in the society.
Abdulwahab said this while briefing the Prospective Corps Members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede on Sunday.
In her brief, She took the them on a mental journey through the background of the Scheme, some of its objectives, cardinal programmes and the importance of the programmes emphasing on the importance of the Orientation Course, its content and the rules and regulations guiding the Orientation Course.
She stressed that the Orientation is the first phase of the service year which prepares the Prospective Corps Members for the challenges of the service year and also exposés them to the ideals of the Scheme, familiarising them with their State of deployment.
She commended the PCMs for comporting themselves so far in a disciplined manner, appreciating their doggedness, dexterity and active participation in activities on Camp. She urged them to keep up the good work even as they prepare for their Swearing-in ceremony which will come up on Tuesday.
She encouraged the PCMs to be security conscious in every areas. She enlightened the Members on the grounds for redeployment which, according to her, is based on marital ground for female Corps Members only and also on health grounds. She reiterated on the fact that all NYSC services are free, stating that postings and relocations are absolutely free. She added that any official found extorting Corps Members or the latter found guilty of bribery and inducement will be sanctioned appropriately.
Speaking on health issues, Abdulwahab urged the PCMs to avail themselves of the services at the Clinic whenever they feel under the weather. She stressed that the clinic is always open and therefore no Member should hide in the hostel when sick. She implored the PCMs to make their health status known so the Scheme can take care of them appropriately.
She also enlightened the Corps Members on the allowances they are entitled to while in Camp stressing on the need for them to open an account with the Banks designated for their platoons as their monthly allowance will be paid into the account.
She further encouraged the PCMs to be of good behavior and strive towards maintaining impeccable records during the service year. She told them to participate actively in all Camp activities ranging from the morning meditation, lectures, sports, to socials and other activities lined up for the achievement of the objectives of the Orientation programme. She stated that outstanding Corps Members right from the Camp stand the chance of winning awards ranging from the State Coordinator's commendation, State Honours Award to the Presidential Honours Award at the end of their service year.
On lectures and SAED, Abdulwahab urged the PCMs to take the Scheme's trainings seriously and leverage on the platform and opportunities provided by the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development In-camp and Post-camp training to empower themselves and become self reliant.
The briefing also featured the introduction of heads of committees and heads of collaborating agencies on Camp.
